Christchurch Infant School

Personal, Social & Health Education

At Christchurch Infant School we have introduced a whole school PSHE scheme called Jigsaw.

Jigsaw combines PSHE, emotional literacy, mindfulness, social skills and spiritual development.

Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. Jigsaw aims to help children know and value who they really are and how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.

There are six Puzzles (one for each half-term units of work) each with six Pieces (lessons). Every year group studies the same Puzzle at the same time (sequentially ordered from September to July), allowing for whole school themes and the end of Puzzle product, for example, a display or exhibition to be shared and celebrated by the whole school. Do we celebrate PSHE in other ways?

Yes, we do! We also celebrate PSHE is lots of other exciting ways too. Throughout the year, the whole school participates in a range of events to recognise and celebrate International and National Days/Weeks.

We feel that it is important for the children’s development to participate and celebrate these events. The events we celebrate in school are:

  • Children in Need

  • Anti-Bullying week, also known as Friendship Week – including Odd Socks Day

  • Children’s Mental Health Week

  • Random Acts of Kindness Day

  • Fairtrade Fortnight

  • World Book Day

  • Earth Day

  • World Day for Cultural Diversity

  • World Oceans Day

Please note: The events that we celebrate are chosen for the current cohort of children at Christchurch Infant School and may change year upon year.
