Science

At Christchurch Infant School our science teaching encourages and excites children to become curious and inquisitive about the world around them. Through a varied and progressive curriculum throughout EYFS and KS1 children will develop a range of scientific skills including problem solving, working scientifically, and collaboration. Children will develop an understanding of nature along with the processes and methods of science whilst being fully engaged and enthused by the subject. We aim to develop critical thinkers who are confident to ask questions and to take risks through their learning.  Pupils will be given a variety of opportunities to become scientific learners through asking and answering questions, using their observational skills, performing simple tests with scientific equipment, identifying and classifying and gathering and recording data. Pupils are provided with frequent opportunities to take their learning outside, observing nature and seeing science firsthand in the natural world.

From EYFS through to Year 2 children will be exposed to a variety of open-ended learning opportunities, ‘awe and wonder’ moments and exploratory, hands-on, investigative learning to deepen their curiosity and create a love of learning through science.
