Personal Development - Thrive and Shine at CIS
Our aim is to help every child develop a strong sense of self, feel proud of who they are, and have the courage to reach for their dreams. We believe that when children understand their own identity and value, they are empowered to thrive, embrace challenges, and achieve their full potential.
Through our Personal Development Curriculum children learn about:
- British Values - respect, the rule of law, individual liberty, democracy and tolerance
- Protected Characteristics - understanding and celebrating differences, so everyone is treated fairly and with respect
- PSHE (personal, social, health education) - learning how to look after themselves and others
- RSE (relationships and sex education) - learning about friendships, families and healthy relationships
- SMSC (social, moral, spiritual and cultural education) - thinking about right and wrong, understanding beliefs and values, and being appreciative of different cultures
At Christchurch Infant School, personal development is the golden thread that runs through everything we do. Our approach ensures that every child grows into an independent, resilient, respectful and kind citizen, who is confident enough to articulate their own ideas, and who is full of self-belief.
We encourage children to build positive relationships, and when problems arise, we use fair and consistent systems to resolve them. Our approach supports children to understand others' feelings and work together to make things right. We use the Thrive model to support this process, ensuring every child feels valued and understood.
Every child matters to us, every day, and we use every opportunity to ensure that all children (including those who may face additional challenges), have the chance to enjoy exciting experiences and opportunities.
Children need the skills, knowledge and confidence to face life's challenges and to enjoy the many opportunities our wonderful world has to offer. That's why we offer a leadership programme and a wide range of clubs and activities, both at lunchtime and after school, giving every child the chance to explore, learn, and shine beyond the classroom.
