We are delighted to announce the launch event for the new school garden! Yesterday after school, we hosted an interactive planting workshop with Jono Watson, permaculture teacher from local food growing charity, Grounded Community.
The new garden area has been a community-fuelled labour of love over the past two years, with planning support from numerous parents, including our project co-ordinator and parent at the school, Angela Gray. The landscaping and planting have been made possible with substantial funding from local charity https://www.christchurchtrust.org.uk , as well as contributions from the school maintenance fund, the CoOp and our own PTFA. We’ve had 3D models/renders created by Sophie de Castro, also a parent at the school, design and educational support from Boscombe based food growing charity https://groundedcommunity.co.uk/ , plus the beautiful landscaping work from parent-run business https://www.bhgardensolutions.co.uk/ . We have also been extremely fortunate to be offered ongoing educational and maintenance funding via local Community Interest Company https://yourplanetdoctors.org , who are also running a “Grow Your Own Rainbow Gardens” food growing initiative at Stourfield Infants and Junior School’s this spring, with more schools in the pipeline! We’d like to thank everyone who has supported and contributed to this project and hope the children will enjoy this space for many years to come!
Soon each class will be visiting the garden where we have potting work benches, a story telling area, a barefoot sensory path and even a mini-beach area to enjoy.
