At Christchurch Infant School, children are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of materials and techniques. They are taught a range of skills to improve and refine their work in both 2D and 3D. Art skills are used across the curriculum and children are introduced to the work of a variety of artists and work from many different cultures. They Investigate art, craft and design in the locality and in a variety of genres, styles and traditions. We fell it is important for the children to work on their own and collaboratively, to work with digital art and the outside environment. Children are taught how to appreciate and evaluate both their work, and that of others.
Music is an important part of the life of our school. We especially enjoy singing together, whether in our classrooms, assemblies, Singalongs or whole class celebrations and we also use our voices expressively when speaking chants and rhymes. We listen to a wide range of music of different styles and traditions, such as Bach, Folk and Calypso! We also enjoy listening to different musicians such as those playing in orchestras and bands to smaller groups such as string quartets and solo piano. Children will learn how to play a tuned or untuned instrument musically such as a maraca or glockenspiel. Music is taught by experimenting with sounds and being creative through the inter-related dimensions of music.
Above all, we encourage children to have fun with music and in turn, develop their self esteem, creativity sense of achievement and confidence.
